PRINCIPAL DESIGNER

Principal Designer

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM Regulations) are intended to ensure that health and safety matters are properly considered during a project’s development so that the risk of harm to those who have to build, use and maintain structures is reduced.

Under the new regulations the client is responsible for the formal appointment of the principal contractor and principal designer. ISM have the technical knowledge, understanding and skills to help manage and coordinate the pre-construction phase and have assisted many of our clients through this process.

WHY IS THE PRINCIPAL DESIGNER IMPORTANT?

In liaison with the client and principal contractor, ISM will have an important role in influencing how the risks to health and safety should be managed and incorporated into the wider management of a project.

PLANNING, MANAGING MONITORING AND COORDINATION

As principal designers, we will plan, manage, monitor and coordinate the preconstruction phase; taking into account the general principles of prevention and approving the principal contractor’s construction phase plans on behalf of our clients. Once the project has been complete ISM will collate and provide the client with the health and safety file.
